  You could say these were little things, but those matter when you’re a 5 star (& pricey) hotel. Not recommended.

  Nice hotel with great location. Swimming pool area and grounds are lovely. Staff not very friendly. Beds have really comfortable mattresses but are put on cheap trolleys which move every time you turn over or get in and out of bed. No double beds in hotel, just 2 trolleys wheeled together. Not great for a 5-star hotel.

  The hotel is impressively grand, our room was fine and the breakfast buffet very good. That said, the overall experience was disappointing and left a sense of being ripped off. For example, on New Year’s Eve, all but one of the 4 restaurants were closed, and the only food (apart from a very small 24hr room service) was a £260 6 course formal dinner. Unfortunately I forgot to pack my dinner jacket.

  The next day, we wanted to go hiking in the mountains, the hotel told us there were no hire cars available on the island, and recommended a coach service. The trip, they said, would take 1 hr in each direction with 3 hrs for walking. In fact it was a leisurely coach tour we were on for all but 45 minutes, when we were able to have a brief stroll.

  Very nice hotel with a good standard and guest oriented staff. Very good breakfast and coffee that is really recommendable. Outside Pool and gym are really nice and especially the gym is very well equipped.

  Quiet but central location in the heart of Santa Cruz (apart from the occasional dog barking and frenetic 2-stroke scooter noise). Excellent breakfast buffet. Room is very comfortable and quiet thanks to double doors. Good size salt water pool not undersized for the size of the hotel. If you rent a car then ensure car park option is included in your package. Staff are courteous and helpful. Room cleaned daily and very effectively. Spa is worth a visit and gym facilities are excellent. Our 2nd time here and will be saving up for a return visit next year. Highly recommended.
